System Parameters refer to parameters that relate to the jLogBook system as a whole. E.g. The Window Size, the Application Title etc. These parameters are stored in the SystemConf table.
Click on the Configure Link and the System Characteristics will be shown.

Note that the configuration screen also shows various Server parameters. E.g. which users are logged on.
To use the screen, just type in desired values directly into the small Windows. Once you have completed the changes, you may either discard the changes (by clicking on the "Discard Changes and Return" button) or you may save the new changes (by clicking on the "Confirm System Configuration".)
For details of the individual parameters, please see the next section.
This is the title that will appear in the Main Window Banner. When iconized, it will appear in your desktop tray.
Set the Start of Shift to the time that the first shift of the day starts. You should use the format HH:MM AM. For example, 6:30 AM
This is the number of hours for each shift. For example, if you have a 7 hour shift, then you should enter 7 here.
Note on non-standard shifts: If you have shift periods that don't meet this model, (for example, different shifts on the weekend), please contact St James Software as they will be able to customize the shift calculation for you.
The Order By clause is a standard SQL clause which determines the order in which the logs are displayed in the grid.
Note that it is generally more effective to have the latest log at the top of the grid and you would therefore set the Order by to "Order by LogDateTime desc"
Note that the order by clause is database dependent. I.e. you should check the order by clause on the database you intend using.
This is the category, which will be as wide as possible in the grid. Generally, some categories can be a fixed size (enter a percentage value into the Grid Pct Width Field in the Category Configuration) or can auto-size themselves (enter a 0 into the Grid Pct Width Field). Depending on the size of the window, there is a residual amount of space in the grid, which will then be taken up by the category that you specify here. Often it is the Message field since this is the field that is least predictable in length and probably the largest field.
