Categories

Special Categories

There are a number of special categories, which we advise you not to delete. (You may choose to not show them but they should not be deleted.) This is because they store certain parameters which are calculated automatically by the system for every log entry. These include the following:

  1. The LogDateTime category: This is the category where the time and date of each log record is kept. It is automatically updated when a new record is added and there are various jLogBook functions that use this category.

  2. The UserName category: This is where the user name for each record is kept. Likewise, this category is updated automatically by the system and is also used by the system to determine the view-ability and write-ability of the current user.

  3. The Message category: This is where the message or actual log is kept. There are special filtering characteristics applied to this category to make it easier to find information.

  4. The Console category: This is updated to be the name of the machine whenever a new record is added.

  5. The Shift category: Is a category which is updated to show the current shift number starting off at number 1 and ascending. You specify the time of the start of the shift in the User configuration screen as well as how long each shift is. The system assumes that all the shifts are the same length of time.

  6. The AmPm category: Is a category which shows whether the logs were recorded in the morning (AM) or afternoon (PM).

  7. The LogID category: Is a category where a primary key is kept. This category improves the speed of access of the system.

Apart from the fields above, you may add or delete categories freely.

Adding a new Category

Click on the Add Category link. Type in the values for the new category. A screen similar to the screen below will be displayed.

You must enter the new sequential number for the Column Position In Table. For example, if you have 14 columns already, you must set the # value to 15. Once you have entered all the new parameters for your new category, click on the Add Category button.
